2 Most Vital Vitamins: Vitamin D and Vitamin B12

This particular write up is through a personal experience. I am not an expert on this but whatever I have learned from my experience and then through research while fighting the deficiency.

Deficiency of any vitamin can affect the mind, body, and emotions. So its really important to have a balanced diet.

Your body gives many signals, so always listen to your body…..

If you feel constantly drained, low on energy, feeling bloated and emotionally week, take a blood test and get your vitamin deficiency checked. Most common deficiencies found among people these days is Vitamin D and Vitamin B12.

Vitamin B12 plays a key role in the normal functioning of the brain and nervous system. Since it is only available in animal-based foods so deficiency is very common among vegetarians. And if you are anemic you are more prone to Vitamin B12 deficiency. Generally, people who are on weight loss diets ignore such micronutrients which later on create problems and then one has to take supplements.

Why B12 is so important :

Our bones need it.

Helps us think and good for brain health.

It’s a mood booster vitamin.

Supports in keeping high energy levels.

Keeps us youthful and protects us from cancer.

Protect the heart.

2 Main reasons for Vitamin B12 deficiency:

  1. You may not be eating the animal-based foods which are rich in the B12.
  2. B12 deficiency is most often caused by digestive system difficulties when the body is unable to absorb B12 from foods and liquids. This is due to a lack of intrinsic factor from the stomach or insufficient acid in the stomach. Get it checked immediately.

Food sources from our kitchen :

Vitamin B12 is found in only animal-based foods. So for vegetarians its really important to have their dairy products.

There are no known plant foods that are natural sources of B12. Vegans who don’t take a B12 supplement often have inadequate B12 levels.

If I talk about an Indian diet from where we can get vitamin B12:-




Dairy products like milk, cheese(paneer), yogurt.

Symptoms of B12 deficiency:

Weakness and tiredness with a tingling feeling in hands, legs or feet.

Anemia which is visible in the pale skin color.

Loss of appetite, frequent constipation or gas problems.

Having a sore tongue or mouth ulcers very frequently.

A decline in memory, judgment, and understanding.

Get yourself checked by a doctor thoroughly if you face any of the above symptoms.

Vegetarians and vegans must take particular care to consume enough B-12. As it is mainly found in meat, eggs, and dairy products.
