Hello, beloved Readers! We are back again, with another missive to lend a helping hand with your well-being. This time we will discuss the importance of being mentally at peace with ourselves to preserve our physical health.
“A calm mind brings inner strength and self-confidence, so that very important for good health.”
~ Dalai Lama
The connection between the body and the mind is an intangible one and they affect each other in ways we cannot always define. The health of one affects the other and so does the illness. There are many ways in which a mind under stress can cause harm to our physical constitution. In today’s all too common high paced lifestyle, stress is the unavoidable add-on to the package deal. Unless managed, high levels of chronic or acute stress can severely affect our health and cause undue damage to our overall system.
Let’s take a look at some of the illnesses that can befall us if we don’t keep a sharp tab on our peace of mind.
- Stress related Blood Pressure and Stomach Ulcers
- Hormone levels fluctuations due to tension, that lead to glandular malfunction
- Unhealthy weight loss/gain
- Hair loss and pasty skin
The ailments listed above are usually diagnosed as being stress related but it is human tendency to not take this diagnosis as seriously as it warrants. But it is our duty to ourselves to know just how critical is it to our well-being, the next question that arises is how to go about it! So that’s exactly where we are going….to discuss some simple tips to work on our mental health which in turn is good for our physical health.
De-Stress and Avoid the Mess
Needless to say, this is the mother of all vital steps when it comes to maintaining peace of mind. Stress and calm cannot go hand in hand and as discussed before, has to be eliminated through methods such as meditation, exercise, therapy, recreational activities etc.
Positive People Propaganda
Positivity begets happiness, which is reason enough to clear your circle of negative people. Man being a social animal cannot help getting affected by group sentiment. So keeping a pleasant, positive and supportive company is of supreme importance to your mental well-being.
Learn To Let Go
It is easier said than done when it comes to homilies like “forgive and forget” or “move on”, but there is no way around them either. Holding onto past misfortunes causes nothing but distress. It causes us to view everything with a jaundiced eye. Letting go and working your way towards a healing process is how you beat the dangers of mental poisoning. In this regard, communication is key and should be used as an effective tool to detox your mind.
Take a Trip or Two
There is almost no better way to gain a fresh, new perspective about the world and ourselves, than taking a vacation. As you soak in an alternative environment, it not only resuscitates your mind but also revitalizes your body. The trick though, is to do this as often as possible. 🙂
Encounter New Experiences
To enhance mental rejuvenation, we must try new things and stay on a learning path. Developing new hobbies keeps both the body and mind young and vigorous. So take up a painting class or dance away a few evenings a week, try new recipes in the kitchen or dust off that long-forgotten guitar. Such fun, zealous activities will put you right back on the sunlit path to mental peace. 🙂
These are some of the important ways in which you can stay strong mentally so that you are problem-free physically. The effects of having peace of mind are reflected not only on your health but also on your attitude. It is essential to keep it up, stay motivated and not lose sight of the goal.
